quote

What is meant by understanding anyhow?
[...]
For example, do we ‘understand’ fields in the same sense that we believe them to be physically real, or do we ‘understand’ them as abstractions? (Are abstractions real?)
[...]
Do we ever ‘understand’ or do we, in reality, use language to create ourselves an illusion of understanding? All we can really be confident about is that, when we do mathematics, we get answers that (a) agree with observations and (b) lead to verifiable predictions.
[...]
it is salutary to reflect on the extent to which enculturation – indoctrination – is what education is about.

I had been been sitting here for quite some time before noticing this scene which, for lack of a better expression, made my heart stop:

I'd like to think that he did not actually climb up, but you never know...

He might bring up the subject of the ballon in the morning, or he might not.
Either way I won't mention it until he does.

edit:  he did bring it up the next evening; saying something about not being able to reach it by standing on the chair, and about not standing on the other chair on top of it.

Hello Blog

Hello, my name is Sam, but I try not to let that put me off.

For a bunch of reasons I've started this blog as a place to share stuff which otherwise might not get shared.
